Aurora Cable Internet Selects Juniper Networks M120 Routers To Enhance Network Performance

Juniper Networks, Inc. (NASDAQ: JNPR), the leader in high-performance networking, today announced that Aurora Cable Internet, an Ontario-based provider of television, cable phone, fiber and high-speed Internet access to both commercial and residential customers, has deployed Juniper Networks M120 Multiservice Edge Router. With the new high-performance routing infrastructure, Aurora Cable is now able to offer its existing customers consistently fast and highly reliable services, while opening opportunities to increase the growth of its business by accelerating the deployment of advanced new services for its customers.

“As a local service provider, we have built a loyal customer base by offering better and more personalized service than our larger competitors,” said Bryan Challenger, Chief Technology Officer, with Aurora Cable. “Not surprisingly our customers have come to expect more from us, so we cannot afford to have downtime or performance issues. The Juniper Networks M120 gives us the performance, reliability and rich features needed to meet those service expectations.”

Aurora Cable provides services in the Aurora, Oak Ridges and Northern Richmond Hill areas north of Toronto. Previous carrier-class infrastructure solutions used by Aurora were more difficult to maintain and had numerous bugs that had to be dealt with on a frequent basis.

“By adding the M120, not only has our stability and performance improved, but so too have the response times of the core network,” Challenger said. “We have also added new capabilities, like bandwidth monitoring, which allows us to more effectively leverage our network resources and offers us further room to grow our business.”

The M120 Multiservice Edge Router is the newest addition to the Juniper Networks M-series product family. The M120 delivers support for 128 Gigabit Ethernet subscriber ports, with 10 Gigabit Ethernet or OC-192 uplink capability in an affordable, compact form factor. Ideal for supporting high-bandwidth converged edge routing applications, the M120 platform is designed to facilitate service aggregation for the multiplay needs of service providers and enterprise users.

The M120 runs all traffic at the core of Aurora’s Internet and IP-based telephony network, handling routing, filtering, and privacy and security responsibilities. Fueled by the high-capacity and enhanced capabilities of the M120, Aurora is planning to expand its Internet offerings to include services such as IP multi-cast video.

“Service providers of all types and sizes must differentiate themselves through network performance and service quality to compete effectively,” said Tim Lambie, vice president, Americas International, Juniper Networks. “For local service providers like Aurora Cable, Juniper’s M120 provides a high-capacity platform in an efficient form factor, giving them the ability to quickly and cost-effectively accelerate the delivery of high-performance services to their clientele.”

In the past few years, Aurora Cable has invested $5 million in fiber throughout the Aurora and Oak Ridges regions, enabling it to transmit television and Internet signals at very high speeds. At 9 megabits-per-second download speed, Aurora Cable Internet is one of the fastest broadband services available in Canada.
