Corning Incorporated Recognized for Contributions to Poverty Alleviation in China

BEIJING.– In recognition of its corporate social responsibility (CSR) efforts in China, Corning Incorporated (NYSE:GLW) was presented with a “Caring Corporation” award today at the “2007 Poverty Alleviation China Round” awarding ceremony at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing.

The award was conferred by the China Foundation for Poverty Alleviation (CFPA), the largest non-governmental organization of its kind in China, in conjunction with Fortune China magazine. The recognition was part of CFPA’s annual commendation drive to thank corporations and individuals for their contributions and donations toward alleviating poverty in China.

Accepting the award on Corning’s behalf was Simon MacKinnon, president of Corning Greater China, and head of its CSR Committee. “Corning is honored to receive this award. We take our corporate citizenship responsibilities very seriously and actively contribute to making a positive difference in the communities where we do business,” MacKinnon said.

He added, “Our mission is to improve people’s quality of life, be it through our cutting-edge technologies or CSR programs.”

This is the third year running that Corning has been awarded by CFPA.

Corning has worked in cooperation with the CFPA since 2005, most notably on a micro-finance project in Fujian Province, which has benefited about 400 underprivileged families.
