New Haven, Conn. — A workshop on preparing for disasters and their psychological aftermath will be presented jointly by Yale School of Medicine and the State of Connecticut on January 24 in New Britain.

The keynote speakers will be:

* Brian Flynn, associate director of the Center for the Study of Traumatic Stress, Uniformed Services University of Health Sciences, and former Rear Admiral and Assistant Surgeon General with the United States Public Health Service.
* Linda Degutis, director of the Yale Center for Public Health Preparedness at Yale School of Public Health and president of the American Public Health Association.

“By the end of the workshop, participants will be able to identify key areas for collaboration between local and regional public health and behavioral health providers related to all-hazards disaster preparedness,” Degutis said. “They also will be able to recognize key trends in evidence-based practice for early intervention in disasters and emergencies.”

The workshop is co-sponsored by the state Departments of Public Health, Mental Health and Addiction Services, and Children and Families, as well as the Center for Trauma Response, Recovery and Preparedness.

The event is from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at Central Connecticut State University, Student Center, Alumni Hall, 1615 Stanley Street.
