Teledyne Brown Inducts 2008 Fellows

Teledyne Brown Engineering, Inc. (TBE) today inducted Jerry C. Edwards and Gerard K. (Gerry) Hacker into its Engineering Fellows Program during a ceremony at its headquarters.

Edwards and Hacker were selected for the honor because of their lifelong contributions in the fields of science and engineering. Both were nominated for the award, passed strict qualifying criteria and were approved by a Selection Committee.

“Jerry Edwards and Gerry Hacker have both displayed extraordinary technical competence and leadership over the course of their careers at Teledyne Brown,” said Rex D. Geveden, president, Teledyne Brown Engineering. “The designation of Fellow is conferred upon those whose technical achievements place them in a category of performance that is highly superior. It is a coveted and rare honor, and these two men have rightly earned it.”

Jerry Edwards retired from Teledyne Brown in 2003 after 34 years with the company. While at Teledyne Brown, he contributed to the advancement of digital telemetry in rocket science; assessments and archiving of ballistic missile flight test data; ballistic missile signatures and optical background modeling; tactical sensor laser susceptibility modeling and testing; Camouflage, Concealment and Detection (CCD); ground vehicle signature management and other technical areas. He also was instrumental in bringing the Optical Signatures Code to TBE. Edwards also led TBE’s Central Engineering Lab for many years.

Gerry Hacker has worked as the Deputy Program Manager for the Propellants, Pressurants, and Calibration (PP&C) Contract at Marshall Space Flight Center (MSFC) for more than 26 years. He has been responsible for obtaining superior ratings as well as identifying and repairing numerous flaws in high-pressure vessels and piping systems that had the potential to fail and cause loss of lives or resources. He has managed the MSFC Pressure Systems Certification Program since 1981. Gerry was also instrumental in obtaining and maintaining TBE’s R-Stamp Certificate of Authorization from the National Board of Boiler and Pressure Vessel Inspectors that authorizes TBE to repair and/or alter vessels. He played a major role in TBE’s ASME certification. Gerry is recognized internationally as one of only a few to have been certified in 22 different Level III areas of nondestructive testing certifications from the American Society for Nondestructive Testing (ASNT).

Edwards and Hacker were presented with a Fellows pin and plaque. Duplicate plaques will be on display in the Fellows Hall of Fame.

This is Teledyne Brown’s fifth class of Fellows since the program’s inception in 2004. There are now 14 Fellows.
