Complex Will Feature State-of-the-Art Energy Efficiency Design

Southern California Edison (SCE) will build its first new customer service center in nearly two decades.

The announcement was made at a groundbreaking ceremony with company and local officials in Wildomar, Calif., one of the fastest growing areas in SCE’s service territory. The 160,000-square-foot, multi-complex service center will be built near the Interstate 215 and 15 interchange, and it is scheduled to open in late 2008.

The project represents a $38 million investment and demonstrates the company’s commitment to serving its customers better in a fast-growing area while championing energy efficiency and environmental stewardship. The service center will be the first of several state-of-the-art, Leadership in Energy Efficiency and Environmental Design (LEED)-certified facilities Edison plans to build over the next few years. The LEED Green Building Rating System encourages and accelerates global adoption of sustainable green building and development practices. This facility will be at the LEED gold level.

“This investment represents our commitment to the dynamic and rapidly-growing new electric infrastructure needs in the southern Riverside County area,” Southern California Edison Chief Executive Officer Al Fohrer said. “When the facility opens, it will allow greater flexibility to serve customers more efficiently and provide a greater level of service reliability while being even more responsive to emergencies in the region.”

The new service center will relocate nearly 300 SCE employees to work in the Wildomar community.

SCE hopes construction of these new facilities will encourage businesses and communities to support sustainable development that promotes energy efficiency, protects the environment and provides current and future employees with an attractive, productive workplace.

“As the nation’s leader in energy efficiency programs, we’re excited to be starting construction on this new service center,” said Lynda Ziegler, senior vice president of customer service. “These new Edison service center facilities will bring together some the latest energy efficiency advancements for commercial and natural lighting, photovoltaics, air conditioning systems, window treatments and water saving features that will allow us to see reduction on energy consumption of more than 40 percent compared to similar facilities that are not LEED-certified.”
