NAVTEQ (NYSE: NVT), a leading global provider of digital map data for location-based solutions and vehicle navigation, today announced that Pharos Science and Applications, Inc., a pioneer in location-based information and services, has selected NAVTEQ map data for the latest additions to its Drive GPS line of portable navigation devices (PNDs). Pharos’ Drive GPS 150 and 250 both utilize comprehensive NAVTEQ maps for the U.S. and Canada.

The new additions to the Pharos Drive GPS series— the entry-level 150 and the mid-range 250—are competitively priced and loaded with features. The intuitive menus project onto color touch screens that automatically adjust to lighting conditions and voice-prompted turn-by-turn navigation accompanies visual cues to heighten the routing experience. Both the Drive GPS 150 and 250 come with Lithium-Polymer batteries that provide continuous operation for up to five and eight hours, respectively.

“Success in the navigation business hinges on productive and precise routing,” said Bob Serafini, vice president, Pharos Science & Applications. “NAVTEQ’s rich data provides a comprehensive and reliable mapping source that allows us to deliver a positive user experience.

In addition, the strong relationships NAVTEQ has developed in the distribution channel will help get the exposure for our products at the point where consumers make their decisions.”

Both devices come equipped with SD cards pre-loaded with NAVTEQ maps of the U.S. and Canada, allowing for seamless and flexible travel across country borders. Each Drive GPS comes with access to over 1.2 million NAVTEQ verified Points of Interest, including restaurants, ATMs, hospitals, gas stations and other high-interest destinations.

“Pharos is one of the early pioneers in GPS and continues to be active in developing portable navigation products from the GPS Phone 600 to the Drive GPS line today,” commented Winston Guillory, senior vice president, consumer and enterprise, NAVTEQ. “NAVTEQ is thrilled to support Pharos’ continued journey in the portable navigation segment.”
