WHAT:
2007 David Jowers Lecture - “Partnering with Nursing Education Programs to Improve Patient Safety”

Lecturer: Linda Cronenwett, PhD, RN, FAAN
Dr. Cronenwett is dean and professor of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Nursing, and associate chief nursing officer for academic affairs at the University of North Carolina Hospitals. She is a member of the Board of Directors of the Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI), and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation’s Transforming Care at the Bedside National Advisory Committee. She is also a member of the Governing Council of the IHI Health Professions Education Collaborative and recently completed services as co-chair of the Institute of Medicine Committee on Identifying and Preventing Medication Errors. The event is free and open to the community.

More about Dr. Cronenwett
Currently, Dr. Cronenwett is the principal investigator of a national initiative, Quality and Safety Education for Nurses, funded by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. Through organizational initiatives, she provides leadership for efforts to improve health care education to ensure that future health professionals will be committed to and capable of creating and improving the safety and quality of the health care delivery systems in which they work.

Dr. Cronenwett earned her master’s degree in nursing from the University of Washington and her undergraduate and doctoral degrees in nursing from the University of Michigan. Prior to her appointment as Dean, she was the Sarah Frances Russell Distinguished Professor of Nursing Systems at UNC-Chapel Hill. She is an elected fellow of the American Academy of Nursing and the North Carolina Institute of Medicine.

Dr. Cronenwett’s past service includes membership on the National Advisory Council for Nursing Research at the National Institutes of Health, and editorial advisory boards of Applied Nursing Research, Online Journal of Knowledge Synthesis for Nursing, Journal of Nursing Measurement, and the Joint Commission Journal of Quality Improvement. She has held numerous offices in professional associations, including President of the New Hampshire Nurses Association and Chair of the American Nurses Association’s Congress of Nursing Practice.
