Clear Channel’s KOST 103.5 FM Teams with Los Angeles Unified School District to Challenge and Inspire Young Minds

Los Angeles, CA – Clear Channel radio station KOST 103.5 FM recently partnered to hold the first-ever “Excitement of Science” fair on Sunday, November 18, 2007. The fair’s theme was “toy inventions” in celebration of Walden Media and Mandate Pictures’ Mr. Magorium’s Wonder Emporium, which opened last Friday.

The contest kicked off in October where students in Kindergarten through 5th grade were asked to draw a picture and write a short description of the toy of their dreams. Out of several thousands of entries, 20 finalists were chosen and awarded a $100 gift card for supplies to create a presentation and model of their dream toy to be displayed at the science fair.

On Sunday, the finalist, families and teachers arrived at screening facility, Harmony Gold Theatres, in Hollywood to display their work. It was evident that each child worked very hard to create such amazing models, posters and prototypes of their inventions.

After an hour of judging, pizza eating, Jamba Juice sipping and lots of fun, winners in each age category were announced, as well as the grand prize overall winner who won computers for home and school. All participants took home a backpack overflowing with toys and stuffed animals. The children congratulated each other and displayed wonderful sportsmanship.

Immediately following the event, the young toy inventors, along with their families and teachers were treated to a private screening of Mr. Magorium’s Wonder Emporium, which tells the story of a fantastical toy store.
