GE Energy To Provide Gas Turbines, Services For Upgrade Of Power Plant In Denmark

WEBWIRE

GE Energy will provide Silkeborg Kraftvarmevaerk A/S of Denmark with upgrades to its existing plants including two LM6000-PD gas turbines, new updated turbine control systems, new fuel control valves, required package modifications and installation and commissioning services.

Silkeborg Kraftvarmevaerk is owned by the municipality of the town of Silkeborg. The two LM6000-PD gas turbines will each produce 39,532 KW at a guaranteed heat rate of 9,327 kJ/KWh. The fuel is natural gas. The guaranteed emissions levels are 25ppmvd for NOx, 25ppmvd for CO and 15ppmvd for HC.

Originally the plant was used for district heating; the exhaust gas was used to heat water, which was circulated to the town of Silkeborg’s residents and electric power production was a byproduct. With the upgrade by GE Energy, an exhaust bypass stack will be installed and the plant’s future operation will have the flexibility to provide heat to the town as needed or provide electric power to the grid when only power is needed.

As part of the conversion, modification and upgrade, GE Energy also will supply engineering, project management and field service. The gas turbines and services will be provided on a turnkey basis with both units being installed and fully operational by August 2008.

“In choosing GE Energy for the plant upgrade, Silkeborg Kraftvarmevaerk’s main concerns were an improvement in power output and guaranteed emissions levels, while continuing to have the economical heat they’ve come to rely on,” said Charles (Chip) Blankenship, general manager of GE Energy’s aeroderivative division.

GE Energy’s aeroderivative division is a leading supplier of aeroderivative gas turbines and packaged generator sets for industrial and marine applications. The company provides power-generating equipment to utilities, industries and marine fleets throughout the world. It is also one of the world’s largest and most experienced aeroderivative gas turbine service providers.
