Fujitsu Europe Limited today announced its newest high-speed departmental scanner, the fi-5530C2 with one of the smallest footprints in the market. The scanner is bundled with Adobe® Acrobat® 8.0 Standard, ScandAll PRO, and Kofax® VirtualReScan® (VRS) 4.1 Basic image capturing software for improved document imaging processing and increased productivity. The fi-5530C2 captures up to 50 pages per minute in simplex and 100 images per minute in duplex mode (A4 landscape at 200 dpi) in colour, monochrome and greyscale and facilitates a duty cycle of up to 4.000 documents per day.

Ultrasonic multi-feed detection and PDF conversion
The fi-5530C2 is ideal for unattended scanning of multi-page documents and batches with paper formats from A3 to A8 and even oversized documents of up to 863 mm in length. Its ultrasonic multi-feed detection sensor ensures reliable scanning which is particularly beneficial when scanning mixed batches of documents. Batch scanning is initiated by simply pressing a button on the scanner or a hot key on the keyboard. Scanned images can be easily edited through image rotation, reversion, de-skewing, and sorting. The fi-5530C2 also provides direct image output to PDF or PDF/A files, creates searchable PDF files, initiates OCR and links to e-mail applications.

Advanced capturing software
The advanced capture image software ScandAll PRO is fully loaded with useful scanning support functions for creating searchable PDFs, password protected PDFs, and utilizing compressed PDF functions. ScandAll PRO is capable of driving the scanner through its TWAIN or ISIS drivers, permitting advanced image enhancement capabilities of VRS.
VRS enables high accuracy in data captured from scanned documents, significantly reducing the need to manually correct the results of intelligent character recognition (ICR) and optical character recognition (OCR). As documents pass through the scanner, VRS performs a multi-point inspection of each image; any inconsistencies are immediately corrected by VRS so that only the straightest, most readable images are processed.
ScandAll PRO is capable of defining multiple profiles, assigning these to the scanner’s operator panel or alternatively choosing them by mouse-click. ScandAll PRO also supports multiple document files with different image characteristics such as resolution, colour mode, file format, folder or retrievable text layer. This is beneficial when capturing documents for multiple purposes as in invoice processing and archiving.

New office linkage functions
Key features also include the scanner´s extensive office linkage functions, for example, utilising the ScanSnap S510M for attaching scanned images to e-mail messages.

600 dpi true optical resolution
The new fi-5530C2 continues the Fujitsu legacy of offering decentralized, high quality image capture to the desktop at a highly competitive price. Its output resolution ranges from 50 to 600 dpi and 1200 dpi, with a true optical resolution of 600 dpi. With a footprint of just 399 mm x 225 mm x 193 mm (WxDxH), the scanner comes with a 100-sheet automatic document feeder (ADF), provides selectable Ultra SCSI / high speed USB 2.0 interfaces and offers dual colour CCD image sensors to consistently capture finest image details in colour and monochrome. Fujitsu’s fi-5530C2 offers selectable black and white background colours, RGB colour dropout, auto de-skew, auto-cropping, and a page counter. An optional “Post Imprinter” secures dates and other information on the back of scanned documents to simplify the search for the original document at a later date.
“A successful scanner must be able to cope with an ever increasing range of documents. To manage this ever growing demand, Fujitsu has designed the fi-5530C2 with an expanded feature set, further simplifying the capture process while adding value to the captured document and allowing it to transition from static data to valued information,” declares Klaus Schulz, Manager, Product & Channel Marketing EMEA. “The development of these new functions with the new software concept make the integrated scanning processes much more efficient and save users time and effort during their working day.”

Price and availability
The Fujitsu departmental scanner fi-5530C2 will be available from November 2007 for a recommended retail sales price of € 2.996 without VAT.
