New York Pharmacies require 1,000 insurance agents for Part D initiative

New York, NY, Nov. 3, 2005 - Beginning November 15, 18.4 million American seniors will have 6 months to enroll in the controversial Medicare Part D Prescription drug plan. For many, it will be a daunting task: New York alone has 46 plans to choose from, and the wrong choice can leave an enrollee with little or no actual coverage.

Under the system, Insurance agents will enroll seniors in various competing plans created within government guidelines: Costs and benefits vary from plan to plan. According to Jeremy Charney, VP Marketing at Dusante Assurance, “Part D is complex, and whatever information has been released is confusing and seldom reaches its target. Many seniors have been left confused and needing advice.”

In an effort to close the Part D information gap, Dusante Assurance is working with Community Care Outreach Services to place an insurance agent in each of 1,000 co-operating independent pharmacies. Their job will be to advise potential enrollees on their best choices, and to enroll them in Part D.

“Given the sheer number of enrollees that have to be dealt with, the problem will be to get agents and enrollees together. Making the agents readily accessible will hopefully speed the process and make it less difficult for everybody.” Charney said. “We are still actively recruiting agents, and will have everyone in place on November 15.”
