Fujitsu Computer Products of America, Inc., a leading supplier of innovative computer products including hard disk drives, peripherals, broadcast video products and biometric security solutions, today announced its third quarter hard disk drive shipment results. During the third quarter, Fujitsu shipments of mobile hard disk drives (HDDs) surpassed 8.32M units, an increase of nearly 45% from the second quarter, 2007. In addition, strong enterprise HDD execution resulted in continued momentum with shipments totaling 1.81M units.

“With the launch of three new enterprise class HDDs and our continued innovation in the mobile hard disk drive market, we increased unit shipments by forty-five percent for mobile, and twenty percent for enterprise, a significant quarterly accomplishment,” said Lorne Wilson, senior vice president, sales and marketing, Fujitsu Computer Products of America, Inc. “The results of the past quarter and our significant growth in the mobile and enterprise markets are the result of our continuous commitment to OEM and channel partners, as well as first-mover advantage delivering Serial and small form factor hard drives to the industry.”

Fujitsu mobile HDD shipments once again sustained year-over-year growth. Leadership in high capacity Serial ATA (SATA) HDDs generated more than 7.44M 2.5” hard disk drives during the quarter, accounting for nearly 90% of all Fujitsu mobile HDDs. In addition, the company continued to advance SATA in both the IT and consumer electronic markets with volume shipments of the next generation, 2.5” 300GB¹ and 7200RPM HDDs. Fujitsu also experienced considerable HDD unit growth for non-IT applications, such as gaming, car-navigation, and multi-function printers.

As the first hard drive manufacturer to offer Small Form Factor (SFF) Serial Attached SCSI (SAS) to the market, Fujitsu continued to increase SFF SAS drive shipment volume to major OEMs and channel partners. With an overall enterprise unit increase of 20% from second to third quarter, SAS units represented over 60% of Fujitsu enterprise HDD shipments, along with increasing demand for 3.5” 15K SAS drives that continued to drive unit growth.

In addition to strong sales, Fujitsu maintained a leadership position in HDD technology innovation. During the third quarter, the company launched the world’s highest capacity 2.5” external HDD, delivering 300GB of travel-ready storage for a growing number of mobile consumers. The company also announced a patterned media breakthrough for HDDs, with the demonstration of ideally ordered nanohole patterned media to enable a capacity potential of 1.2TB² on a 2.5” HDD.

“Fujitsu’s leading edge technology, innovation, superior quality and customer satisfaction are the backbone of our business and the principle factors of our success in the hard disk drive industry,” said Wilson.
