Digiturk First in Region to Broadcast Live with Harris Corporation’s ONE Integrated Workflow Solution

WEBWIRE

Harris Corporation (NYSE: HRS) announced that Digiturk, the largest digital satellite television provider in Turkey, has begun broadcasting live from its new playout facility in Istanbul with an end-to-end Harris high-definition (HD) broadcast workflow solution.

Spanning the entire production workflow chain, the Harris broadcast HD equipment installed at this facility includes the H-Class™ D-Series™ playout automation system; 10 NEXIO XS™ server systems; a Platinum™ router; the IconLogo™ modular branding solution; an Inscriber® G3™ HD/SD-selectable character generator (CG) system; and Videotek® TVM-950 test and measurement instruments. Bilgi Elektronik (formerly Erdemir Engineering) was fundamental in the sale to Digiturk, and will provide ongoing support for this installation.

“We wanted to work with one prime broadcast supplier on this project, and Harris was the only company that was able to deliver an integrated solution across the whole HD workflow chain,” said Emre Uysal, Head of Operations for Digiturk. “The D-Series™ system easily integrated into our facility by supporting our existing workflows, while the NEXIO XS servers allow us to migrate between SD and HD for our playout requirements — without the need for auxiliary devices.”

Digiturk uses the D-Series playout automation system to control more than 30 NEXIO XS™ server ports spread over two server domains. High-speed network connectivity delivers 1.2 Gbps bandwidth between the digital archive and NEXIO XS™ server domains, and partial mirroring provides greater redundancy for the premium channels. NEXIO XS servers are configurable between HD and SD formats and include up-, down- and cross-conversion — with the capability to easily adjust the aspect ratios to address the various studio requirements. The D-Series™ system and NEXIO XS servers also offer simplified future channel expansion.

The D-Series system interfaces with the existing traffic and scheduling system to import channel schedules and media data as well as send “as run” logs to the database. This tight interface continually updates all new ingest data on the automation database to highlight any upcoming problems for scheduled material.

The D-Series playout automation system controls 10 playout channels, the NEXIO XS servers, the Platinum router, Sony® FlexiCarts™, Sony® HDCAM and Digital Betacam™ VTRs, the IconLogo™ branding tool, and the G-3™ CG system as well as a screen-subtitling DVB system and a Front Porch Digital DIVArchive™ system that is controlling a StorageTek™ library.

Harris Broadcast Communications offers products, systems and services that provide interoperable workflow solutions that span the entire broadcast delivery chain. The Harris ONE approach brings together highly integrated and cost-effective products that are ideal for emerging media business models and for customers upgrading media operations to digital and high-definition services.
