SPSS Clementine and Predictive Enterprise Services Provide in-Database Predictive Analytics for DB2 Warehouse 9.5

ARMONK, NY .-IBM (NYSE: IBM) today announced it is working with SPSS Inc. to deliver predictive analytics capabilities within IBM DB2 Warehouse 9.5, enabling customers to quickly gain the real-time insight needed to better compete and address critical business challenges.

Under the collaboration, SPSS’s Clementine predictive analytics technology and Predictive Enterprise Services platform will be integrated with DB2 Warehouse 9.5 to enable data mining and scoring to run inside the warehouse, rather than as a separate task.

The combination of data mining on a predictive analytics platform within the DB2 Warehouse will provide customers a graphical interface enabling the quick creation and application of data mining models, which can be used to uncover hidden patterns in data, visualize data patterns to gain insight, and rapidly apply this insight to improve business processes.

SPSS Predictive Enterprise Services augments the advanced data management capabilities of DB2 Warehouse 9.5 by automating the storage and management of predictive analytical tasks, thereby enabling organizations to apply predictions to business systems, delivering a higher return on IT investments.

“Working with SPSS extends the capabilities of our business intelligence offerings by providing the predictive analytic tools customers need to gain increased real-time insight from their data,” said Arvind Krishna, vice president of Data Servers for IBM. “The DB2 and SPSS predictive analytics solution will help organizations increase their ability to identify and address critical issues and new business opportunities.”

SPSS predictive analytics software and solutions are used by companies worldwide to improve critical business decisions to increase revenue -- such as through reducing credit risk, increasing customer loyalty, and detecting and preventing fraud -- across diverse industries including finance, telecommunications, retail and government.

“SPSS data mining customers will be able to take advantage of the new workload management capabilities in DB2 Warehouse 9.5,” said Colin Shearer, SPSS senior vice president of market strategy. “The extreme workload management feature allows for more efficient interactive mining by not only prioritizing operational workloads over back-office inquiries, but also prioritizing the underlying system resources. SPSS’s ability to combine structured and unstructured data for predictive analytics, as well as perform in-database mining by leveraging DB2 Warehouse’s embedded data mining algorithms, makes it the perfect solution for advanced real-time analytics.”

This collaboration and integration with SPSS also supports IBM’s cross-company Information on Demand initiative, aimed at helping global customers use information as a strategic business asset.

Customers such as Banca Lombarda, a leading bank in Italy, rely upon the combination of IBM DB2 and SPSS Clementine data mining technology to deliver improved customer insight and comply with international regulations, while also expanding into new markets.
