The Indie Studio That Could

BELLEVILLE , Mich. - The Little Leaders Company announced that its nationally acclaimed developmental videos for toddlers had garnered two 2005 Seal of Excellence Awards from Creative Child Magazine. With fierce competition in the children’s video/dvd segment, having two titles receive such recognition has company founder Bradley Silvius beaming. “We submitted two titles and they both won in a crowded field where being a small, independent studio and having a toddler audience makes this an even more phenomenal accomplishment for our creative team.” The studio centered just outside Detroit has also won awards from the Dove Foundation, and the Film Advisory Board.
Silvius credits The Little Leaders Company’s unique approach to multilingual content and motor-skill development through American Sign Language. “We are the only toddler videos on the market to be offered in at least 3 languages as well as a bonus session in American Sign Language specifically designed for motor skill development. Studies show that 77% of children can grasp their own food at six to seven months—that’s the perfect time to start working on motor skill development.” The company also firmly believes in research that suggests the “terrible two’s” might not be so terrible with Sign Language. “The child’s brain is outpacing the ability to orally communicate with the intense coordination of jaw, lips and tongue,” Silvius says. “This inability to communicate can lead to tantrums and frustration which the use of signing can drastically reduce.”
While much attention has been given of late to the benefits of teaching sign language to toddlers and young children, The Little Leaders Series are the first faith-based developmental videos to integrate multiple languages and a focused learning track in American Sign Language.
“The intent of our videos is to expose the child to the sound of other languages,” says Raquel De Paula, producer. “The early years are the perfect time to let their young, eager ears soak up different variations of the human tongue. We feel this is our way of taking the developmental power of DVD to the next level.”
The Little Leaders Company has been featured on ABC Radio News, Fox News, Agape Press and numerous other venues.
