Agilent Technologies to Demonstrate Technology Leadership in Military Communications Solutions at MILCOM 2007

WEBWIRE

Agilent Technologies Inc. (NYSE: A) today announced that it will demonstrate its leadership offerings in military communications solutions at MILCOM 2007, including the following application areas: R&D, RF, operational test, networking, physical layer test, and internet security and monitoring. Agilent provides the high-performance measurement products and services required by the military so that they are freed up to focus on more demanding tasks.

On display at the event will be:

* Agilent’s new synthetic instruments: The demonstration will highlight the instruments’ capability and flexibility by generating and analyzing complex communication signals such as the U.S. military’s Link-16 secure communications format. Agilent’s synthetic instruments are part of the U.S. Department of Defense’s synthetic instrument initiative to develop modular, scalable instrumentation for automated test systems. The instrumentation provides the capability to easily insert new technology, as well as increased longevity of their automated military test systems.
* R&D tools for design and simulation of Software Defined Radios: Those designing, implementing or evaluating Software Defined Radios can benefit from using the Agilent EEsof EDA system-level RF and microwave design software tools in combination with Agilent’s test equipment. This combination allows a complete simulation from the originating DSP waveforms, either software- or FPGA-based, through the entire RF chain and propagation models, including the effects of RF interference and jamming. The connected Agilent software-hardware solution results in faster design and verification cycles and greater confidence in the performance of the finished product.
* A new Military Radio Portable Tester, the Agilent L4600A: Displaying its durability the portable tester will be shown operating in a full-scale thunderstorm consisting of thunder, lightning and rain. Its capabilities and ease of use, as well as its ruggedness, make it an excellent tester in military environments.
* Advanced signal generation tools: Many modern military communication systems use wideband, spread-spectrum techniques for enhanced security, higher data rates and improved immunity to other signals present in the electromagnetic environment. Advanced signal generation tools such as the Agilent E8267D PSG vector signal generator and the N8241A wideband AWG enable users to create these wideband signals to evaluate receiver performance and simulate complex signal scenarios.
* Advanced software tools to quickly define and create wideband waveforms: The Agilent N7620A Signal Studio for Pulse Building allows users to create complex pulsed waveforms and pulse sequences to simulate radars. The Agilent N7621A Signal Studio for Multitone Distortion lets users easily define 1 GHz wide multi-tone waveforms and NPR signals to measure device and system performance.
* A wireless network optimization test platform, the Agilent E6474A: Designed for RF engineering and operation teams, this platform enables WiMAX test for IEEE 802.16e 2005 drive-test capabilities through a scalable, integrated, air interface measurement system. This software enhancement helps network equipment manufacturers and service providers identify interference issues and neighboring cell site configuration problems, enabling the smooth introduction and ongoing maintenance of WiMAX capabilities that operate in IEEE 802.16e 2005 wireless broadband data networks.

“Agilent has a long-standing leadership role as a broad line suppler of COTS equipment,” said Ron Nersesian, vice president of Agilent’s Wireless Business Unit. “We have an exciting, full line-up of test solution products based on commercial and military standards, and we are actively involved in the transformation requirements of the industry.”
