Agilent Technologies Inc. (NYSE: A) and Fujitsu Microelectronics Pacific Asia Ltd. today announced the integration of Agilent’s WiMAX(tm) test solutions into Fujitsu’s chipset test solution for Mobile WiMAX, enabling the highest measurement throughput available in the industry today.

The Agilent MXZ-1000 Manufacturing Test System for WiMAX is an optimized turnkey solution for high-volume manufacturing, which now features the Fujitsu chipset library. This integration enables the highest measurement throughput. Also included in the system is the Agilent E6651A test set for Mobile WiMAX, which allows equipment developers and test houses to run validated protocol test cases to verify implementation conformance to the WiMAX IEEE standards.

“It is essential for Agilent to collaborate with WiMAX-enabled chipset providers in the early stages of the development process to create and integrate specific test solutions, accelerating the launch and manufacturing ramp-up,” said Daniel Mak, vice president of Agilent’s Measurement Systems Division. “Our work with Fujitsu is a great example of these activities. Our goal is to expand the portfolio of WiMAX test products and offer a continuum of price/performance solutions to address the WiMAX product-development lifecycle.”

The Fujitsu MB86K21 chipset for Mobile WiMAX provides substantial speed and performance improvements compared with market alternatives, at a lower power consumption in a very compact form factor. The highly integrated, one-chip mobile baseband System-on-Chip (SoC), which uses 90 nm low-leakage process technology, is ideal for PC cards and other media-rich mobile applications. The mixed-signal SoC has achieved an 18.6 Mbps transfer rate in sample installations and lab demonstrations.

“We are pleased to show our great progress of Mobile WiMAX SoC development with the working demo of MPEG2 HL video streaming,” said Makoto MAC Awaga, general manager of Mobile Solution Division, Fujitsu’s Electronic Devices Group. “We believe our Mobile WiMAX SoC will be used in one of the first Wave 2 certified products in the market. From our WiMAX experience, we know that our customers are expecting us to provide the complete manufacturing test solutions. We’re glad to announce our work with Agilent accelerating our customer’s time-to-market requirement. Agilent is an important partners in Fujitsu’s WiMAX ecosystem.”
