Espoo, Finland / Bangkok, Thailand.-Nokia Siemens Networks has signed its inaugural fixed network deal with DTAC Network, a wholly owned subsidiary of Thai mobile operator DTAC. With Nokia Siemens Networks’ International Gateway solution, DTAC Network aims to provide customers with affordable and high quality international services. This contract extends Nokia Siemens Networks’ footprint in DTAC as its sole supplier for both wireless and fixed equipment.

DTAC Network, a subsidiary of DTAC, Thailand’s second largest mobile operator, and Nokia Siemens Networks have strengthened their longstanding partnership with a fixed network contract to support DTAC Network’s international calling service in 2007.

In its inaugural fixed network contract with DTAC subsidiary, DTAC Network, Nokia Siemens Networks will deliver its softswitches (SURPASS hiE 9200), trunk media gateways (SURPASS hiG 1200), announcement server (SURPASS hiR 200), NetManager and IP Transport.

The company is also awarded with a whole range of Services and will provide project management, interoperability testing, network implementation, system integration and commissioning services as well as competence development training of personnel. Additionally, the Care unit of Nokia Siemens Networks will support DTAC Network in maintaining the newly installed hard- and software, inclusive of emergency and hardware repair and replacement services. The overall contract runs for five years.

DTAC Network received its IDD license to operate International Voice services in February this year. Thanks to Nokia Siemens Networks’ solution, DTAC Network can offer these voice services cost-efficiently using the IP protocol for transporting communications data (Voice over IP). Voice over IP technology from Nokia Siemens Networks ensures optimized voice quality and provides the range of rich routing features which operators are used to from the TDM world.

Said Sigve Brekke, Chief Executive Officer, DTAC, “The International Gateway solution from Nokia Siemens Networks allows DTAC Network to expand its international business and provide world class international services to our customers. We offer not only TDM-based voice services, but also VoIP, thus expanding their calling options.”

Suwit Pruckwattananon, Head of DTAC Customer Team, Nokia Siemens Networks, added, “Nokia Siemens Networks’ ability to deliver end to end solutions, including fixed and mobile communications solutions and services, clearly demonstrates how customers can benefit when they enter new markets, such as fixed-line service. We are proud to be an integral part of DTAC Network’s international voice services.”

Nokia Siemens Networks has been in collaboration with DTAC since the early 1990s and has been its sole network supplier since October 2003. The new fixed network agreement with DTAC Network further reinforces the strong working relationship between the two companies.
