TWELVE VS ONE: CHESS CHAMP LIKES THE ODDS

(RENO, Nevada) – Former state trooper ,chess champion, motivational speaker and author of One Move at a Time. Orrin “Checkmate” Hudson is touring the country looking for a good games. Challenging twelve opponents at once, he will use chess as a training tool for life mastery skills during the Wednesday, November 7, 2007 event at the Holiday Inn – Reno Downtown, 1000 E. 6th Street. From 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM, Hudson will play a dozen opponents simultaneously while teaching the basics of chess.

Be Someone, Hudson’s award winning crime prevention program, has mentored thousands of students since its inception in 2001. He has proven learning to play chess helps young people learn to think for themselves and make smarter decisions through improved pattern recognition and concentration. His students walk away with more self motivation, a greater desire to excel in school and a marked improvement in their GPA. Students also learn teamwork and the importance of community involvement.

Hudson’s innovative KASH is King philosophy spells success for students by emphasizing K= Knowledge, A = Attitude; S = Skills; H = Habits. He urges young men to abandon the saggy pants look in order to project a more professional appearance. “Heads up! Pants up! Grades up!” says Hudson. “I teach kids to think it out, don’t shoot it out. Push pawns, not drugs. Prevention is better than detention.”

“Chess teaches people to look at problems from different perspectives, and to think before making a move. Every move one makes has consequences, either positive or negative.” says Hudson. “In that respect, it’s exactly like life. Winning reinforces the good choices one makes, while losing provides an opportunity for one to learn from mistakes. Get in the game and join us. The greatest crime in the world is not developing your potential. When you do what you do best, you are helping not only yourself but the world.”

The Be Someone anti-crime program is sponsored by Bill and Dwan Twyford of Investor’s Edge University workshops. “We appreciate their unwavering support in helping us reach more and more kids.” Said Hudson.
