Alcatel-Lucent (Euronext Paris and NYSE: ALU) and SSP Telecom, an Alcatel-Lucent business partner based in Trois-Rivières, Quebec, today announced that Centre De Sante Et De Services Sociaux Haut-Richelieu-Rouville (CSSS HRR), Quebec, has selected Alcatel-Lucent to help upgrade the health care provider’s wired and wireless data infrastructure across its 14 sites.

As part of the network transformation, an advanced IP network for CSSS HRR that leverages a wide range of Alcatel-Lucent’s product portfolio, including IP core routing, edge access and centralized management and security will be provided. SSP Telecom is providing installation, deployment, program management and maintenance for the new network.

“CSSS HRR is dedicated to providing outstanding patient care and services, which means we must have a state-of-the-art, reliable, scalable communications system for our physicians, staff and administration,” said Daniel Burgoyne, CIO of CSSS HRR. “Alcatel-Lucent and SSP Telecom were selected based on their vast knowledge and experience in IP networking and deep understanding of the specific needs of the health care market.”

The Alcatel-Lucent solution includes the award winning OmniSwitch 9700, which provides resiliency and security features through the Alcatel-Lucent Operating System (AOS), and is optimized for use in the network core and aggregation layer where large amounts of user data are consolidated for 10 Gigabit connections. The Alcatel-Lucent OmniSwitch 6850-P24 at the edge, and security features include network access control via Alcatel-Lucent Access Guardian, and malicious attack containment provided by the Alcatel-Lucent Quarantine Manager.

“CSSS HRR was looking for more than supplier-customer relationship. As the complexity of health care and communications continues to grow, they were looking for a technology advisor and consultative approach to provide a total solution,” said Alex Giosa, President of Alcatel-Lucent’s business in Canada. “The Alcatel-Lucent IP network gives CSSS HRR the reliability, dependability and security communications network required to provide superior patient care both inside and outside the Haut-Richelieu Rouville campus environment.”

“Our experience in both the enterprise space and the health care industry make us an ideal choice to help create an advanced IP network for CSSS HRR,” said Robert Dessureault, President of SSP Telecom. “We understand the vision and mission of CSSS HRR and are excited to help take patience care to another level.”
