Wireless Medical Content Helps Nurse Practitioners Make Critical Decisions

Thomson Micromedex gives mobileMICROMEDEX™ to ACNP nurse practitioners under new partnership.

ACNP NATIONAL CLINCIAL CONFERENCE--As part of their joint commitment to serve the specialized technology needs of the nursing community, Thomson Micromedex and the American College of Nurse Practitioners (ACNP) have entered into a partnership to give members complimentary access to evidence-based clinical information via handheld technology to support care treatment decisions. According to Kenneth P. Miller, Ph.D., R.N., C.F.N.P., F.A.A.N., president-elect of ACNP, nurse practitioners oftentimes travel to rural areas where they have limited or no access to their computers. “To deliver the highest quality care, nursing professionals must have proven and unbiased medical data empowering them to make accurate care decisions wherever they practice,” he said. “With the aid of mobileMICROMEDEX™, nurse practitioners can easily access trusted and consistent evidence-based clinical information at the patient’s bedside and throughout the patient care process.”

Through the agreement, the two organizations will give nurse practitioners access to Micromedex clinical solutions suite using mobileMICROMEDEX, a software tool that seamlessly downloads medical information on drugs, drug interactions, diagnosis, acute care, alternative medicines and toxicology to their Palm OS® or Pocket PC PDA (personal device assistant). Additionally, nurse practitioners receive the “What’s New” alert that automatically notifies clinicians of the lasted drug information including FDA updates.
