NBAA - ATLANTA, Ga.- Pratt & Whitney Canada now offers Altair Avionics data transmission units for installation on the Cessna XL/XLS, Cessna 680 Sovereign, Gulfstream G200 and Dassault Falcon 2000EX business aircraft, following recent Supplemental Type Certification by the U.S. Federal Aviation Authority. Pratt & Whitney Canada (P&WC) is a United Technologies (NYSE: UTX) company.

“Our engine diagnostic systems are key market differentiators that reinforce P&WC’s position as a global aerospace leader,” said Doug Thompson, General Manager of Altair, a major supplier of aerospace engine electronic monitoring systems and an integral part of P&WC’s service centre network. “We are very pleased with these certifications, which now allow us to deliver additional value to customers with advanced data transmission technology.”

Altair’s data transmission unit (DTU) is a critical component of the on-board engine performance monitoring system. The DTU captures engine health data and transmits it wirelessly through the cellular network for analysis using a dedicated web tool. Engine parameters, such as temperature, fuel flow and speed, can be captured after every flight, allowing for earlier analysis and better planning of maintenance needs and costs.

“The DTU saves time and money for operators, and reduces technician and pilot workload by eliminating the need to manually download key engine performance information,” explained Thompson. “We believe our diagnostic systems set us apart from the competition by helping operators better manage their maintenance and ultimately improve aircraft availability.”
