ATLANTA.- Rockwell Collins introduced its RTA-4100 MultiScan™ weather radar to business jet operators at the National Business Aviation Association’s (NBAA) 60th Annual Meeting and Convention in Atlanta. The new system, which can be installed on new aircraft equipped with Pro Line 21 and Pro Line Fusion™ avionics, will be available in December 2008.

“Our MultiScan weather radar will bring a new level of weather situational awareness and operational simplicity to the business aircraft operators. It is already well-known throughout the aviation industry because of its proven capability to give pilots a complete picture of the weather, while reducing workload because of the fully automatic capabilities of the radar,” said Denny Helgeson, vice president and general manager, Business and Regional Systems for Rockwell Collins. “Business jet operators using the RTA-4100 also have the comfort of knowing that our groundbreaking MultiScan technology has more than five years of operational experience on more than 100 airline fleets around the world.”

Rockwell Collins’ RTA-4100 MultiScan weather radar provides a 300 NM “clutter-free” weather display and enhanced effectiveness as a threat detector. Capabilities such as MultiScan Automatic Operation, Geographic Weather Correlation, OverFlight™ Protection, SmartScan™ and Turbulence detection accurately depict weather and weather-related hazard events at any location around the globe. It also features TrueZero™, which automatically corrects for aircraft errors that cause radar tilt inaccuracies, and provides the flight crew with turbulence detection and alerting capability out to 40 nautical miles.

The MultiScan Weather Radar System automatically scans ahead of the aircraft and combines the returns through advanced digital processing and analysis algorithms to display not just precipitation rates but the actual weather threats. The result is a more accurate depiction of weather and turbulence hazards while significantly reducing flight deck workload and training for pilots.

The RTA-4100 MultiScan radar is designed to support integration of new sources of data as they become available.

Rockwell Collins’ MultiScan received Aviation Week’s Technology Breakthrough Award for 2004, the Airline Avionics Institute’s 2005 Volare Award, and Flight International’s 2007 award for best product in the Propulsion, Systems and Avionics category.
