Juniper Networks To Demonstrate Multi-Vendor Ethernet Interoperability At Carrier Ethernet World Congress

WEBWIRE

Juniper Networks, Inc. (NASDAQ: JNPR), the leader in high-performance networking, today announced its participation in a multi-vendor interoperability demonstration designed to show the implementation and provisioning of Carrier Ethernet services using diverse access technologies. Organized by the European Advanced Networking Test Center (EANTC), the demonstration features Carrier Ethernet solutions from more than 20 vendors, and is being held at the Carrier Ethernet World Congress in Geneva, Switzerland from September 25-27.

During a two week hot staging for the interoperability event conducted in EANTC’s lab in Berlin, Germany, Juniper demonstrated multi-vendor interoperability for LDP- and BGP-based Virtual Private LAN Services (VPLS) and Ethernet Operation and Maintenance (OAM) functions, among other features, in a realistic multiplay/IPTV environment. All services in the test network were based on Carrier Ethernet standards as specified by the Metro Ethernet Forum (MEF). Juniper Networks MX960 Ethernet Services Router, with the proven JUNOSTM software as its operating system, demonstrated interoperability with 14 other vendors’ equipment.

“With the ability to support VPLS using both LDP and BGP based technologies, Juniper’s MX-series offers service providers a range of options to scale their Ethernet services,” said Ravi Medikonda, director of service provider marketing at Juniper Networks. “With these VPLS features, carriers can offer Ethernet Services across network boundaries using Inter-carrier VPLS based Ethernet Services, maximizing flexibility and expanding revenue opportunities.”

The MX960 platform is the industry’s largest capacity Carrier Ethernet platform with up to 960 gigabits per second (Gbps) of switching and routing capacity-enabling reduced costs, more revenue per platform and superior investment protection. The first in a series of Juniper platforms optimized for emerging Ethernet network architectures and services, the MX960 is purpose built for the most demanding carrier applications. By combining a best-in-class hardware platform with the reliability and service flexibility of JUNOS software, the MX960 delivers a combination of features and capabilities previously unattainable in Carrier Ethernet deployments.
