Wyoming Children Are "Ready To Learn" Thanks To An Award From Qwest

RIVERSTON, WY.- The Qwest Foundation today announced an award of $5,000 to Wyoming Public Television’s (WPTV) Ready To Learn program. The grant will be used to promote early literacy efforts across the state.

“This initiative is about helping prepare Wyoming children for success in school,” said Mike Ceballos, Qwest president for Wyoming. “Qwest is proud to participate in WPTV’s Ready To Learn program. The work they do for early childhood development is critical to the future success of Wyoming students.”

“It is very important that we supply children with the necessary tools, such as workshops, books and the tools to present structure in their lives at an early age,” said Stephen Biando, WPTV director. “Qwest’s help allows us to contribute to one of Wyoming’s most urgent educational goals - ensuring that Wyoming children begin school ready to learn.”

Ready To Learn works with parents and childhood professionals to distribute books and provide training to better prepare Wyoming children to enter school. In 2006 alone, the program hosted workshops for nearly 7,000 Wyoming children and distributed over 2,000 books.
