ATG Deploys Teamcenter Software on Microsoft SQL Server, Building an Enterprise Collaboration Infrastructure to Support its Innovative Business Model

Tuesday, October 18, 2005, PLANO, Texas – UGS Corp., a leading global provider of product lifecycle management (PLM) software and services, today announced that the rapid deployment of its Teamcenter® solution on Microsoft’s SQL Server, at Aviation Technology Group, Inc. (ATG), has helped accelerate the global product development schedule for ATG’s high-performance jet aircraft. From initial planning to production deployment, the implementation of Teamcenter – the world’s most widely used PLM portfolio – was completed in only two months.

“ATG is a progressive company with ambitious business goals,” said Charlie Johnson, President and COO of ATG. “Our company needs to be fast and responsive, just like our aircraft. We quickly deployed Teamcenter as the common collaboration environment that will bring together our vendors and partners worldwide and further compress our product development schedule.”

Open solutions help integrate a diverse team

ATG is a five-year old company with an innovative mission to develop and build a high performance, two-seater, military style jet that travels at high speeds of 0.90 Mach for the civilian market. To achieve its aggressive business plan and delivery schedule, ATG has developed the product concept and design, and will source the aircraft sub-systems and components from aviation leaders around the globe.

To support collaboration among ATG’s diverse network of partners and suppliers, Teamcenter provides an open PLM foundation to capture and share design information, regardless of the original CAD authoring application. Aircraft components designed in a variety of CAD systems – including CATIA®, Pro/Engineer® and UGS’ own NX™ application – are submitted by partners in the widely used JT 3D data format. Through its visualization capabilities, Teamcenter then creates 3D digital product mockups that offer ATG a composite view of the aircraft.

“We are using a systems integration approach in order to take advantage of best-in-class sources around the world,” said George Bullard, Director of Engineering for ATG. “Teamcenter enables us to integrate components from these many sources in a virtual environment so that we can quickly and cost-effectively create our innovative aircraft.”

UGS-Microsoft relationship enables cost-effective deployment and execution

Like many other companies worldwide, ATG standardized on Microsoft SQL Server for its enterprise applications. Because of the longstanding and close working relationship between UGS and Microsoft, ATG’s selection of Teamcenter on the Microsoft SQL Server platform is not only consistent with the company’s enterprise software infrastructure, it also enables seamless application integration thus reducing the overall cost-of-ownership.

“Businesses of all sizes are adopting Windows Server System and SQL Server as the foundation for enterprise productivity,” said Steve Bashada, Vice President of Teamcenter applications, UGS. “Teamcenter provides rich, scalable PLM capabilities to customers like ATG that can be deployed quickly and cost-effectively, and integrated in their existing Microsoft environment.”

“Microsoft SQL Server’s enterprise scalability delivers proven performance for our customers,” said John Fikany, general manager, U.S. Enterprise Manufacturing Sector, Microsoft Corp. “UGS Teamcenter’s availability on the Microsoft platform helps to optimize and automate critical business functions through collaboration while allowing companies to leverage their existing technology investments.”

The release of Teamcenter on SQL Server 2000 fully utilizes the Microsoft technology platform to deliver collaboration, knowledge management and lifecycle process automation in a familiar user interface like the Windows desktop environment. Teamcenter solutions become more accessible, and affordable, for a wider community. Customers are also able to use other SQL Server-based enterprise solutions, such as Windows SharePoint Services, SQL Server 2000 Reporting Services and BizTalk Server among others, all within a common IT infrastructure.
