ATLANTA. - The Human Rights Campaign Foundation’s 2008 Corporate Equality Index today awarded a score of 100 percent to UPS (NYSE:UPS), a first for the package and freight delivery industry.

The Human Rights Campaign, or HRC, is America’s largest gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender (GLBT) civil rights organization. The Corporate Equality Index is a tool used to measure how companies treat their GLBT employees, suppliers and customers.

“We understand that policies that support inclusion and diversity are critical for us to be successful and we are honored to be recognized with a perfect score on the HRC’s Corporate Equality Index,” said Mike Eskew, UPS chairman and CEO.

The 2008 index surveyed 519 companies, with 195 companies receiving a perfect score of 100. To be rated in the HRC Corporate Equality Index, companies must be either a Fortune 500 company, one of the largest 200 privately held companies on the Forbes Private 500 list or a company with at least 500 employees.
