Fujitsu Computer Products of America, Inc., a market leader in document imaging scanners and services, today announced that the Fujitsu ScanSnap S500 scanner was honored by PC News Weekly Magazine with the Editor’s Choice Award for its speed, clarity and advanced functionality.

The editors at PC News Weekly Magazine examined hundreds of products, testing each in a hands-on environment to determine the ease of use, functionality and performance for both home and business. The Fujitsu ScanSnap S500 scanner was selected for its affordability, clarity, performance and overall innovation, and was featured in the August issue of the publication. “The Editors at PC News Weekly looked at a range of products and were especially pleased with the ScanSnap S500 for its ability to transform homes and offices into paperless environments, easily and cost effectively” said Ed Green, Editor of PC News Weekly. “The robust feature set, including increased speeds, duplex scanning options and automatic paper-size detection mirrors that of a high-end scanner, but comes in way under the expected cost for such rich features.”

The Fujitsu ScanSnap S500 scanner is a double-sided color scanner that scans at speeds of up to 18 pages per minute (ppm) for single-sided documents and 36 images per minute (ipm) for double-sided documents. The new Fujitsu ScanSnap scanning solution comes bundled with ABBYY FineReader for the ScanSnap scanner, a custom-built Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software application based on ABBYY’s award-winning recognition technology. The ABBYY FineReader software for the ScanSnap scanner enables users to convert documents into editable formats such as Microsoft Word, Excel® and PowerPoint®, or save into one of three searchable Portable Document File (PDF) options, all with a push of a button.

“Fujitsu looks at the design of its scanners from the perspective of functionality and usability to address the intense business needs of its users,” said Victor Kan, vice president of sales and marketing, Imaging Products Group, Fujitsu Computer Products of America, Inc. “This award marks the latest in a series of accolades that recognize the company’s continued efforts in innovating products that offer enhanced performance for productive work environments.”
