IBM [1] (NYSE: IBM) today announced that based on a new IDC report [2], the company achieved double digit year-over-year revenue growth in the storage software in Q2 2007, growing fastest and gaining the most revenue share of the top three vendors. This marks the tenth consecutive quarter that IBM Storage Software had equal-or-above-average revenue growth.

In the Q2 2007 IDC Storage Software Tracker, IBM grew 19 percent year-over-year overall, capturing 13 percent of the total storage software revenue. According to the report, IBM’s performance outpaced the industry’s overall storage software revenue growth, which was measured at 10 percent year-over-year growth.
In that same report, IBM also posted year-over year double digit revenue growth in key storage software segments including Data Protection and Recovery (33 percent year-over-year); Storage Replication Software (19 percent year-over-year), Storage Infrastructure Software (15 percent year-over-year), Storage Device Management Software (18 percent year-over-year), and in the Americas and International Segments (11 percent and 26 percent year-over-year, respectively) -- outgrowing the segment in all of these areas.

“Companies are increasingly looking to storage software to manage data growth and improve the overall health and performance of their IT infrastructures,” said Andy Monshaw, General Manager, IBM System Storage. “IBM continues to demonstrate leadership throughout our storage portfolio -- including software, hardware and services -- and our standards-based solutions provide customers with flexibility to improve utilization and application availability among multi-vendor systems.”

Today’s announcement highlights IBM’s momentum in storage software. According to another recent IDC report, of the top four revenue share owners for total disk storage in the second quarter 2007, IBM was the fastest growing vendor for the quarter, capturing 19.25% of the total disk storage revenue, growing its market share 5.5% compared to the first quarter 2007 [3].
