Harris Corporation (NYSE:HRS), an international communications and information technology company, has delivered six of its new Videotek® VTM-2000 multiformat on-screen broadcast monitors to Overon, a leading Spanish signal transportation company. These monitors, which provide cost-effective solutions for monitoring and measuring multiformat and multistandard broadcast television signals, will be installed in Overon’s fleet of Digital Satellite News Gathering (DSNG) trucks and in Overon’s master control room (MCR) at its Madrid, Spain, facility.

Born out of a merger between Mediapro, Abertis Telecom and GlobeCast (a France Telecom subsidiary), Overon provides a range of TV services to Spanish broadcasters. Through its links with its parent companies, Overon has a vast terrestrial and satellite infrastructure and is able to support its customers with the most advanced solutions - from playout facilities to engineering support to consultancy. Overon also provides the broadcast facilities for internationally renowned sporting events such as Wimbledon, the Tour de France, World Cup football and Formula One Racing.

“We have been satisfied users of the Videotek® VTM-200 multiformat on-screen monitors for several years and are delighted to now be one of the first users of the latest VTM-2000 monitors in Europe,” said Ricard Cerezo, production engineer at Overon. “In our MCR application, the VTM-2000 allows us to quickly and easily check the quality of incoming signals as they are received from various remote sources. Additionally, the XGA output of the VTM-2000 allows us to use a broad variety of TFT monitors available in the market, and it is easy to select the analogue and digital inputs.”

“The VTM-2000 is distinctive because it provides users like Overon with both SD-SDI and composite signal monitoring for their quality control, troubleshooting, or compliance checking applications at a lower cost,” said Tim Thorsteinson, president of Harris Broadcast Communications. “The installation of the VTM-2000 in two distinctly different applications at Overon underscores the versatility that this product can offer to meet a broad range of signal monitoring needs.”

Based on technology developed for the Videotek® VTM Series™, the VTM-2000 is an easy-to-operate tool to monitor and measure SD-SDI (525 and 625) and analogue composite (NTSC and PAL) signals on any XGA-capable monitor. The VTM-2000 includes the patented Videotek® Q-SEE™ technology, which enables total display customization, and a universal input power supply - all in a compact, 1RU console. The output display includes video picture, waveform, vector and alarm status or optional audio. The display can be configured to enable the viewing of each element in one quadrant of the screen or any single element in a full-screen view.

The sale and installation at Overon was handled by Broadcast Meditel, Harris Corporation’s reseller in Spain.

The VTM-2000 multiformat on-screen monitor is part of the media transport and core processing offerings in the Harris Broadcast Communications ONE initiative to deliver interoperable workflow solutions that span the entire broadcast delivery chain. The unique Harris approach brings together highly integrated and cost-effective products that are ideal for emerging media business models and for customers upgrading media operations to digital and high-definition services.
