Lockheed Martin and USO Named as Finalists for Corporate Citizenship Award

WEBWIRE

Bethesda, MD.- Lockheed Martin’s [NYSE: LMT] partnership with the United Service Organization (USO) has been named a finalist for the 2007 Partnership Award from the U.S. Chamber of Commerce’s Business Civic Leadership Center. The partnership supports U.S. military service members and their families by providing care packages with small personal items, such as pre-paid worldwide phone cards, disposable cameras, and messages of thanks from citizens.

In 2004, Lockheed Martin launched the Lockheed Martin Employees Care program, which collects online donations to pay for care packages. Lockheed Martin recently surpassed the $1 million mark in support of Operation USO Care Package, with fully two-thirds coming directly from employee monetary donations.

Lockheed Martin employees have volunteered more than 18,000 hours to stuff the contents of 110,000 packages or to pass out care packages to deploying service members at airports, military bases, and other locations.

The corporation also has donated funds to 10 USO recreation centers around the world, sponsored USO charitable events, and served in leadership roles on USO Boards.

While this partnership reflects the commitment of Lockheed Martin, its employees, and the USO, the focus is always the service members who continually earn the gratitude of all of us.

Robert J. Stevens, Chairman, President and CEO of Lockheed Martin observed, “Through our donations to the USO, we can say ’thank you’ to our troops both as a corporation and as individuals. It is an opportunity to show our appreciation and gratitude for their tremendous sacrifices on behalf of our nation"

And service members truly appreciate the care packages. One Marine stationed in Fallujah, Iraq said, “At times, we sit and wonder, ‘who cares.’ Your care package definitively, and loudly, answers that question! To you, and those generous donors, we thank you for your thoughts and support.”

Another Army Sergeant First Class commented, “The USO is always there for the troops. It’s good to see companies support the men and women of the armed forces. These care packages mean a lot to us. It shows that people are still thinking of us and support us at home"

The Partnership Award is part of BCLC’s annual Corporate Citizenship Awards competition and recognizes a company and a charitable organization that have been successful in together addressing an important social issue.

The winner of the 2007 Partnership Award will be selected by public vote. BCLC encourages voters to go to BCLC’s Web site (http://www.uschamber.com/bclc/awards/2007vote) by October 5 to select their favorite partnership. The winner will be announced on November 7 at BCLC’s 8th annual Corporate Citizenship Awards Dinner in Washington, D.C.
