mobilis, a public mobile operator in Algeria, Alcatel-Lucent (Euronext Paris and NYSE: ALU) and Research In Motion (RIM) (NASDAQ: RIMM; TSX: RIM) today announced the launch of the BlackBerry® wireless solution in Algeria. Using a BlackBerry smartphone, mobilis customers will be able to wirelessly send and receive emails, make phone calls, browse the Internet, send text messages and access corporate and lifestyle applications when on the move.

To help customers communicate with the people they want, as well as access the information they need, mobilis is working with Alcatel-Lucent and RIM, as well as Net-Skills, an Algerian integrator specializing in network infrastructures.

“This partnership illustrates the desire of mobilis to forge strong strategic links with local and global partners, whose technological and marketing expertise allows us to ensure our individual and business customers receive a level of service that meets the highest international standards,” states Hachemi Belhamdi, Chief Executive Officer of mobilis.

Alcatel-Lucent and RIM’s distribution agreement means that Alcatel-Lucent will provide global integration services, leveraging its strong local presence in the region to provide mobilis with the end-to-end implementation, launch, delivery and support of the BlackBerry solution to the Algerian market.

“Progressive operators like mobilis are looking for converged solutions, services and suppliers to give them a competitive advantage in their markets,” said Olivier Picard, President of Alcatel-Lucent’s activities in the Europe & South region. “Alcatel-Lucent has an established ecosystem of partnerships and unique global integration expertise to ensure operators can quickly and effectively introduce the most advanced services available.”

Alcatel-Lucent and mobilis will work together to provide mobilis’ enterprise customers with BlackBerry smartphones for access to email, the Internet, intranets and corporate applications when on the move. The BlackBerry solution enables uninterrupted business communications and increased employee productivity, delivering a significant competitive advantage to mobilis’s enterprise customers. Consumers using the BlackBerry solution will enjoy the flexibility of being able to stay in touch with both work and friends without having to be in front of a computer.

Charmaine Eggberry, Vice President and Managing Director of RIM, EMEA added: “We are pleased to be extending the BlackBerry service in Algeria and are confident that mobilis customers will benefit from the enhanced communications, productivity and convenience enabled by BlackBerry smartphones. The deployment with mobilis is further testament to our strong relationship with Alcatel-Lucent.”
