DuET Employees Reduce Personal Energy Use – Sustainability

WEBWIRE

DuPont Engineering Research and Technology (DuET) employees are identifying and seizing opportunities to reduce their personal energy use.

Several employees have found ways to substantially reduce their energy costs and personal contribution to climate change. For example, some have cut their gasoline use by 50 percent and electricity use by one-third. They were able to do this with minimal inconvenience or loss of quality. A more specific example is, by measuring electrical use at the meter when appliances and lights were off, one employee discovered his home computer was not shutting down and was using added electricity at a cost of $100 per year.

“We want to cost-effectively reduce our personal global warming footprint while enhancing the quality of life for our families. We have learned that if we measure our personal energy use and costs we can find new ways to conserve,” said Bob Sylvester, Sustainability Growth Center Core Team member.
