Safety Concerns Regarding Lead in Toys Inundates EMSL Analytical

High Profile Toy Recalls Associated with Lead have Concerned Parents Reacting.

EMSL Analytical, the leader in providing cutting edge laboratory safety services, has been busy answering a barrage of phone calls from concerned parents across the country. The high profile toy recalls associated with many of America’s most trusted toy manufacturers and brands in recent weeks has not gone unnoticed by parents.

In June of this year lead concerns were first raised with the recall by RC2 Corporation of painted wood children’s train toys. This was followed by Mattel’s recall of close to one million children’s toys in 83 types of products ranging from Elmo toys to Dora the Explorer. So far all of the questionable products have been produced in China.

“The calls started shortly after the initial news broke in June of the 1.5 million Thomas & Friends wooden railway product line and have only grown in volume,” stated Joe Frasca, Senior Vice President Marketing at EMSL Analytical. Under current regulations any toys with more than 0.06% lead are subject to recall.

As one of the largest lead testing laboratories in the country, EMSL Analytical has been providing testing services for commercial and private customers for many years. The laboratory provides the most cutting edge analytical techniques for testing lead and provides affordable home test kits that provide results for concerned parents in as little as 30 seconds.

“Just today new articles were published addressing concerns of lead in baby bibs,” said Paul Cochrane, Business Development Director for EMSL Analytical. “The EPA recognizes that children under the age of 6 are most at risk from potentially devastating illnesses because their bodies are growing so quickly, lead has no place in our children’s toys and EMSL is determined to help safeguard our next generation,” Cochrane continued.
