ServerEngines™ LLC and Fujitsu Microelectronics America, Inc. (FMA) today announced that ServerEngines has integrated the Fujitsu MB87Q3140 12-port 10 Gigabit Ethernet (10GbE) switch chip and the Fujitsu MB8AA3020 20-port 10GbE switch chip into its innovative BladeXchange™ 10GbE Blade Fabric solutions.

ServerEngines is an innovative startup company that has developed a unified Ethernet-based architecture optimized for storage, network, and clustering applications. The first two products in this new architecture are BladeEngine™ and BladeXchange. ServerEngines’ BladeEngine and BladeXchange products together provide a unified 10GbE fabric for blade servers enabling networking, storage and clustering traffic to use a single Ethernet-based fabric, thus providing state-of-the-art performance while dramatically lowering capital and management costs. Further, the combination allows the virtualization of this I/O traffic by allocating networking and storage bandwidth to individual guest virtual machines. The BladeXchange switch fabric is partitionable into virtual switches, which enables separate handling of logical domains for compute, networking, and storage resources.

The Fujitsu MB87Q3140 (http://www.fujitsu.com/us/news/pr/fma_20050525.html) is a single-chip 10GbE switch for bladed chassis, with advanced security, data-reliability and aggregation features, and with low power that users require. With its enhanced features and the on-chip CX4-copper physical layer interface, the switch chip is suitable for the bladed and ATCA equipment market. The MB8AA3020 (http://www.fujitsu.com/us/news/pr/fma_20060807.html) is a 20-port 10GbE switch with XFI support.

“Our highly productive, three-year relationship with Fujitsu has enabled us to develop the BladeXchange, an excellent 10 Gigabit Ethernet switch fabric solution for blade servers,” stated Raju Vegesna, president, and CEO of ServerEngines. “BladeXchange enables our OEM partners to offer an end-to-end 10GbE solution for end users, which has been validated with our BladeEngine 10GbE solution. Given the enormous traffic growth experienced within today’s data centers, it has been particularly beneficial for our products to leverage Fujitsu’s 10GbE technology and capabilities in switches.”

“ServerEngines is an innovative silicon solution provider targeting high-performance blade servers with the BladeXchange solution,” added Keith Horn, chief operating officer, Fujitsu Microelectronics America. “We are very pleased to collaborate with them to increase the adoption of 10 Gigabit Ethernet blade servers in enterprise computing applications.”
