DISCOVERY names KIM to head business affairs

SILVER SPRING, Md.- Discovery Communications today announced that Clara Kim has joined the company as Executive Vice President, Business Affairs. She is based at the global headquarters in Silver Spring, Maryland.

Kim will be responsible for the development of Discovery’s overall business affairs and production management strategies, and will have day-to-day oversight of matters relating to the acquisition of high-quality programming content for all of Discovery’s networks and digital platforms. She will advise senior management on content deals, intellectual property, licensing and other issues, and will guide a team of executives, professionals, paraprofessionals and support staff.

“Clara is a proven leader in the media business, with a wealth of experience in the U.S. and international markets across key areas including development and production, programming acquisitions, digital media and intellectual property,” said Mark Hollinger, President, Global Businesses and Operations, Discovery Communications, to whom Kim reports. “Clara will be a key advisor as we expand Discovery’s world-leading array of original programming.”

Kim most recently was Senior Vice President and General Counsel for MTV Networks Entertainment Group’s online businesses and SPIKE TV. During her career at Viacom, she also served as Senior Vice President and General Counsel for Nickelodeon Online; Vice President of International Development for MTV Networks; and Vice President/Counsel for Original Programming at Showtime Networks. Before working in the entertainment industry, Kim was a transactional lawyer at Shearman & Sterling in New York. She earned her Juris Doctor from New York University School of Law and her Bachelor of Arts degree (summa cum laude) in Comparative Literature from Brandeis University.
