“Bugsy” Hits “Great To Be Nominated”

Beverly Hills, CA — The 1991 Best Picture nominee “Bugsy” will be screened as the next feature in the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences’ “Great To Be Nominated” series. The film, centered on the life of gangster Bugsy Siegel during the Golden Age of Hollywood and the rise of Las Vegas, will screen on Monday, August 13, at 7:30 p.m. at the Academy’s Samuel Goldwyn Theater. Oscar® nominees cinematographer Allen Daviau and writer James Toback, along with actor Don Calfa (“Louie Dragna”) and casting director Ellen Chenoweth will participate in an onstage discussion following the screening.

“Bugsy” is the fourth Warren Beatty-produced film to be featured in the “Great To Be Nominated” series.

“Bugsy” received a total of 10 Academy Award® nominations, taking home the Oscars® for Art Direction (Dennis Gassner; Set Decoration: Nancy Haigh) and Costume Design (Albert Wolsky). The film also received nominations for Best Picture (Mark Johnson, Barry Levinson and Warren Beatty, producers), Actor in a Leading Role (Warren Beatty as Bugsy Siegel), Actor in a Supporting Role (Harvey Keitel as Mickey Cohen), Actor in a Supporting Role (Ben Kingsley as Meyer Lansky), Cinematography (Daviau), Directing (Levinson), Music – Original Score (Ennio Morricone) and Writing – Screenplay written directly for the screen (James Toback).

The Oscar®-nominated shorts “Birch Street Gym” and “Blackfly” will be screened prior to the feature.

Tickets are $5 for the general public and $3 for Academy members and students with a valid ID. Tickets may be purchased by mail, in person at the Academy during regular business hours or, depending on availability, on the night of the screening when the doors open at 6:30 p.m.

Tickets also may be purchased online at www.oscars.org/events. There are no minimum order requirements and no transaction or processing fees. Tickets may be purchased online until noon PST on the day of the event.
