Fujitsu Services today announced that it is creating 30 new jobs in Belfast to staff its new £3.2m Oracle Centre of Excellence. The new site will cement Fujitsu’s position as one of the key employers in the region with 25 people already employed at Fujitsu’s existing Northern Ireland Oracle Practice. The new Centre of Excellence will help Fujitsu deliver an advanced solutions service based around Oracle’s eBusiness Suite of software products across Fujitsu’s growing European customer base.

The new Oracle Centre of Excellence is the second significant announcement that Fujitsu has made in Northern Ireland in recent months. In June 2007 Fujitsu announced the creation of 400 new jobs in Londonderry and Belfast as part of an £18m investment in a new Managed IT Services Centre of Excellence. With this new centre in Belfast Fujitsu will have created 430 new jobs in the past 3 months to bring its planned employment in the region up to around 800 in total.

Invest NI has offered Fujitsu £150,000 in support of the project which will promote the recruitment of the 30 new highly skilled jobs at the Belfast centre over the next two years. This will include both technical and business focussed roles delivering across multiple business sectors within Europe.

Michael Crow, head of Fujitsu’s application services in Northern Ireland added: “As one of the largest independent providers of the Oracle eBusiness Suite services we are witnessing significant growth in our primary markets. In response to this market opportunity and given the competitive advantages offered by Northern Ireland we have selected Belfast as the location for a new specialist hub that will centralise future development and support growth. We are confident that the availability of a highly skilled workforce, combined with Invest NI’s continued support, will provide a firm foundation to enable us to fully develop our Oracle Practice in Northern Ireland.”

Commenting on the investment, Invest NI Chief Executive Leslie Morrison said: “Fujitsu is a global blue-chip company. Therefore, its decision to focus key capabilities within its Oracle Practice in Belfast reinforces Northern Ireland’s reputation as a competitive location, with a highly skilled ICT workforce.”
