Cypress Ships 20 Millionth Unit Of 2.4-GHz Wireless Technology

WEBWIRE

Cypress Semiconductor Corp. (NYSE: CY) today announced that it has shipped 20 million units of its 2.4-GHz WirelessUSB™ and PRoC™ wireless solutions, which are widely used for wireless devices such as PC peripherals, remote controls, toys, medical instruments and industrial appliances. The technology features Cypress’s unique frequency agile protocol with patented Direct Sequence Spread Spectrum (DSSS) technology for best-in-class interference immunity and lowest power consumption, enabling a superior user experience in the crowded 2.4-GHz spectrum.

In the last year, Cypress’s award-winning, second generation WirelessUSB LP and PRoC LP products have secured over 200 design wins in various low-power wireless applications. This design momentum has resulted in a steep ramp in wireless shipments in the last six months, accelerating Cypress past the 20 million unit mark.

“This milestone demonstrates that Cypress’s robust, low-power wireless solutions are rapidly being adopted as a de-facto industry standard for simple, low-power wireless networks in a broad base of applications worldwide,” said Steven Larky, Vice President of Cypress’s Wireless Solutions. “Shipping 20 million units, along with our continued design win success, is a strong testament to our wireless technology’s unique ability to enable world-class battery life, uninterrupted RF performance and fast time to market. We see expanding opportunities going forward, as the programmability of our PRoC solutions enables new wireless implementations.”

“Cypress has helped us to win many OEM projects,” said Roger Tsai, Input Device Division President at Behavior Tech Computer Corp. (BTC). “We have improved the usability of our customers’ wireless input devices and reduced their support costs with WirelessUSB LP’s superior interference immunity and low power performance.”

“Cypress’s wireless technology provides a robust RF communications link without compromising on power consumption,” said Greg Smith, Worldwide Sales and Marketing Vice President of Gyration Inc. “The assurance that the technology will work in the harshest of environments while maximizing battery life is the key reason our products have found successes in business offices and the home living room.”

The WirelessUSB LP CYRF6936 device is a highly integrated 2.4-GHz radio transceiver plus digital baseband that utilizes advanced power-optimization techniques to extend battery life. Cypress’s PRoC™ LP programmable-radio-system-on-a-chip integrates the WirelessUSB LP transceiver with the enCoRe™ II 8-bit flash microcontroller (MCU) into a single-chip solution. PRoC LP (CYRF69103 and CYRF69213) simplifies coding and board layout to cut design time and reduce board space requirements for innovative, small form-factor wireless applications.
