Siemens Medical Solutions USA, (www.usa.siemens.com/healthcareit) and Partners HealthCare, Boston, announced today that Partners will implement Siemens Medical’s Soarian(R) Financials patient administration and revenue cycle management system across its healthcare system. Soarian Financials is a new generation information technology (IT) solution designed to streamline revenue cycle management and help manage costs through a holistic, patient-centric, workflow-driven approach.

Partners will install the full suite of financial applications, which includes Soarian Scheduling; Decision Support Solutions; Enterprise Document Management; Soarian Community Access; and Healthcare Data Exchange (HDX), Siemens’ payer connectivity service.

Soarian goes beyond traditional patient management and patient accounting systems. It embeds a contract engine and an enterprise-wide master person index (EMPI) into a comprehensive revenue cycle solution. The solution will help streamline Partners processes, and will support performance tracking against the organization’s financial goals through Embedded Analytics.

By delegating the right work to the right person, at the right time and place, Soarian helps organizations improve efficiency, reduce denials, minimize rebilling, reduce accounts receivable days and lower administrative costs. Partners expects its patients will experience a more streamlined process for getting a physician appointment and simpler, less confusing billing.

"As we take our investment in a revenue cycle solution to the next level and looked at what the industry had to offer, Siemens’

comprehensive solution set and project approach most clearly met our needs and will support our strategic revenue cycle objectives well into the future. Soarian’s innovative technology, combined with Siemens’ healthcare IT domain expertise, are the reasons we chose this as our enterprise-wide system - a scope of implementation that we have not undertaken previously" said Partners Vice President of Finance Peter Markell.

“We’re pleased to add Partners to our growing base of Soarian customers, and we look forward to applying our technology and revenue cycle expertise to one of the most sophisticated healthcare systems in the country,” said Janet Dillione, president, Health Services, the Healthcare IT Division of Siemens Medical Solutions. “Optimizing the revenue cycle is an active process that requires communication, collaboration, and decision-making--across the enterprise. Soarian helps to eliminate silos, so high-quality financial information flows throughout the organization, enabling better collaboration, and more informed and efficient decision-making.”

This agreement builds on the recent announcement between Siemens Medical Solutions and Partners to advance Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) in healthcare information technology. That announcement highlighted a strategic collaboration between the two industry leaders that is expected to deliver new levels of ease-of-use and depth of functionality to the healthcare information technology field.

“Our work with Partners, from revenue cycle optimization to SOA development, is truly cutting edge. The growing pressures on healthcare providers to manage costs while adopting state-of-the-art information technology demands nothing less than a completely new approach to the development of healthcare IT solutions,” stated Dillione. “Siemens is pleased to take a leadership role in this effort and proud to team with Partners to transform ideas into reality.”

SOA delivers the capability to individually extend, reuse, and access services - software components that implement a business task or process. Deploying SOA into complex healthcare processes improves system flexibility and agility and greatly optimizes workflow throughout the healthcare enterprise - while improving the user experience.
