CATS Gas Pipeline Update

Divers have now completed a detailed visual inspection of the CATS pipeline at the location where a large vessel dragged its anchor causing damage to the pipeline’s protective concrete coating.
The diver inspection followed extensive preparatory work by BP to ensure the activity could be carried out safely and efficiently. A large section of the damaged concrete coating was removed to enable the inspection of the pipeline. The diving work was conducted from a dive support vessel which was secured at short notice following wide scale industry co-operation.
Following a comprehensive engineering assessment of the inspection data, it has been determined that the pipeline has suffered damage and a permanent repair will be required before the pipeline is safe to start up.
A metal sleeve will be installed to strengthen and protect the affected area of pipeline. Design and fabrication of the sleeve is already underway and it is expected that the system will restart during September.
BP will advise when this work has been completed and the pipeline has been returned to service.
