Sixth Edition of Top-Selling Compilation CD Series "I heard it on NPR" To Be Released September 27

One World Many Voices Volume Features Global Artists And New, Unusual or Classic Performances

WASHINGTON - While NPR is the destination for news, information and the arts for more than 26 million people, it’s also a gateway for music fans to discover new, unusual and classic music and performers not found anywhere else.

Listener demand for more of the kind of music used throughout NPR news and programming - as well as the sensibility behind the selections - sparked the first “I heard it on NPR” compilation CD, released in 2002. Now, after four more top-selling editions, NPR is launching the sixth volume of the popular collection on September 27, entitled “One World Many Voices.”

Previous “I heard it on NPR” CDs have creatively covered the breadth of popular music: the debut release featured jazz legends and newcomers, and subsequent editions explored unique American music genres, world music, blues and singer/songwriters performing in NPR’s Studio 4A. “This sixth CD returns to the global music theme but this time, also takes listeners on a journey through the local history and events that influenced the artists we’re showcasing,” said Barbara Sopato, E-Commerce Manager, NPR.

“I heard it on NPR: One World Many Voices” includes 13 songs from such globally-diverse artists as Emeline Michel, GreenJolly, Miriam Makeba and Patti Smith. The CD series is produced in partnership with Daedalus Books and Music and Boss Sounds.

NPR’s influence over adult music buyers has been acknowledged by the music industry and numerous consumer, business and trade media. A Billboard article named NPR as “the crucial destination” for record labels seeking to effectively reach adult audiences.
