Infineon Licenses MIPS Next-Generation MIPS32® 74K™ Core

WEBWIRE

MIPS Technologies, Inc., (NASDAQ: MIPS), a leading provider of industry-standard processor architectures and cores for digital consumer, networking, personal entertainment, communications and business applications, today announced that blue-chip semiconductor and systems solutions supplier Infineon Technologies AG (FSE/NYSE: IFX) has selected the MIPS32® 74K™ core for its next-generation IC designs. Infineon is the first semiconductor company to license the next-generation 74K core family since the cores became generally available in May 2007. Based on a unique microarchitecture, the MIPS-Verified™ 74K cores are the embedded industry’s first fully synthesizable processors to exceed 1GHz in TSMC 65nm process.

The 74K cores deliver superior performance with enhanced DSP capabilities-addressing the requirements of rapidly evolving industry standards such as H.264, 802.11n and WiMAX for unparalleled processing power. Unlike existing solutions that require the use of premium physical IP or costly structured logic and semi-custom design flows to achieve superior performance levels, the 74K processor cores are designed to work with generic standard cells, memories and EDA design flows.

“As designs become increasingly complex and the industry continues to require unprecedented levels of performance and efficiency, our customers need to stay nimble enough to adapt and succeed in a fiercely competitive market.” said Brad Holtzinger, vice president of worldwide sales at MIPS Technologies. “We’re delighted that Infineon has invested in our breakthrough 74K core technology and look forward to working together on cutting-edge designs that will power a new generation of innovative devices.”
