Cisco’s Multiservice Transport Platform brings New Benefits to Hong Kong Businesses

Cisco® today announced that PCCW Ltd, the leading telecommunications provider in Hong Kong, has selected a Cisco optical networking solution (ONS) to help strengthen its Ethernet Private Line (EPL) and Ethernet Virtual Private Line (EVPL) services for its enterprise customers.

The deployment of the Cisco ONS 15454 Multiservice Transport Platform (MSTP) enables service providers to enhance their networking services to enterprise customers with faster deployment of new applications, minimized latency and jitter-rate, scalable bandwidth, end-to-end network management and improved data-integrity.

“Competition in Hong Kong’s telecommunication market has always been keen. In particular, high-end enterprises demand the best private-line service to help them maintain their edge and grow their business,” said Larry Wong, Director of Marketing and Products of PCCW. “We chose Cisco because it not only offers us a proven, highly reliable, flexible and cutting-edge platform on which to build our innovative optical networking services, but also enables us to give our customers an advantage in the marketplace.”

“Cisco’s advanced optical networking technology available today enables service providers to enhance their services,” said Charleston Sin, Cisco’s general manager for Hong Kong and Macao. “This platform testifies to Cisco’s commitment to help service providers improve service delivery to their clients.”

Cisco’s reconfiguration optical add/drop multiplexing (ROADM) technology helps operators add, drop or pass through any combination of the available wavelengths by remote control using software commands, without bringing dense wavelength-division multiplexing (DWDM) experts on-site to manually set up or modify node configurations. This dramatically shortens the amount of time required to introduce new services to the market. The Cisco ROADM solution combines integrated planar lightwave circuit (iPLC) and wavelength selective switching (WSS) technologies, which are optimized for different network configurations. The solution is also equipped with the revolutionary “Crossponder,” which uniquely integrates carrier-class Metro Ethernet functions into DWDM platform to offer Metro Ethernet Forum-certified Ethernet services. According to Infonetics Research, Cisco leads the ROADM and Metro wavelength-division multiplexing (WDM) market, with more than 4,000 ROADM nodes installed in customer networks worldwide.
