Juniper Networks, Inc. (NASDAQ: JNPR), the leader in high-performance networking, today announced France’s Ministry of Labor, Social Affairs and Solidarity has deployed its Secure Access SSL VPN solution to manage and control remote access to government data and applications, helping to reduce ongoing costs and eliminate significant IT inefficiencies. The Juniper Networks Secure Access SSL VPN solution will also serve as a cornerstone for the Ministry’s emergency contingency planning, helping to ensure business continuity in the event of emergency contingencies, such as a pandemic health crisis or extreme weather conditions.

“We previously used an IPSec VPN and RTC access, but this approach required the installation and maintenance of client software on each workstation accessing the network, even if it belonged to a third party,” said Fabrice Pizzi, IT manager at the Ministry of Labor, Social Affairs and Solidarity. “The mounting costs and management complexity exceeded our budget and IT resources. Juniper uniquely met our price, performance and functionality requirements with its Secure Access SSL VPN solution. The solution streamlines the whole process for providing remote access and significantly improved the productivity for us and our users. It is very straightforward to add new users to the system on an ad hoc basis, even when we don’t own the user’s endpoint device.”

As the Ministry’s user population became more geographically distributed, it faced escalating demands from business partners, maintenance suppliers and offsite employees for seamless remote access to data and applications on its corporate network. The Ministry’s existing remote access solution had become a significant management and cost burden. Juniper Networks’ SSL VPN solution enables the Ministry to provide authorized third parties and offsite employees with anywhere, anytime access to sensitive network resources from any Web-enabled device. The Ministry now has the ability to provide a diverse user population with highly granular access to resources without sacrificing data integrity.

The Juniper Networks Secure Access SSL VPN solution enables the Ministry to provide access to specific resources on a per-user basis, specified by user group or role, as well as by network, device, and session attributes. Because the solution is Web browser-based, each user can be brought online and managed without the need for client software downloads and ongoing maintenance. The highly-scaleable Juniper Networks Secure Access SSL VPN solution is fully redundant to help ensure uninterrupted availability. It provides flexible access levels for a myriad of contingencies, including web access to specific files or URLs, access to specific client/server applications and access to corporate network resources. Additionally, detailed logging and audit capabilities support the Ministry’s ongoing regulatory compliance requirements.

“Public sector environments have rigorous security requirements as a result of the legislation protecting the sensitive data being handled by organizations such as The French Ministry of Employment, Social Cohesion and Housing,” said Gert-Jan Schenk, senior vice president of operations, EMEA for Juniper Networks. “Our Secure Access SSL VPN solution helps them to meet their compliance needs, yet ensures maximum productivity and flexibility for the extended workforce.”
