Six Colleges Share $2.9 Million in Professional Development Grants to Improve Indian Education

Professional Development programs in six colleges and universities have been awarded $2.9 million to provide training programs to recruit and graduate new American Indian teachers and school administrators, U.S. Secretary of Education Margaret Spellings announced today.

The University of Oregon, the University of Northern Colorado, Turtle Mountain Community College in North Dakota, Montana State University-Bozeman, Dine College in Arizona, and the University of Utah are the grant recipients in today’s announcement.

The grants are a part of the Office of Indian Education’s Professional Development program, which trains qualified American Indians to become teachers and administrators in Indian communities.
