PHOENIX -- Avnet, Inc. (NYSE:AVT), a global technology distribution and services company, was recently honored by the Chandler Chamber of Commerce for the company’s long-standing support of the Chandler business community. Avnet received the Chandler Chamber of Commerce’s 2007 Chandler Cup, which recognizes companies that demonstrate community support and involvement, and make a significant contribution to the growth of the local economy through capital investment, job creation and sustained innovation. The award, which recognizes Avnet’s more than 20 years in Chandler and recent move to expand its Chandler operations, was presented to Avnet at the Chandler Chamber Annual Awards Dinner held at the Crowne Plaza San Marcos Golf Resort.

’We look forward to continuing to partner with the City of Chandler - a community that provides support for large companies like Avnet, and fosters economic development,’ said Jim Smith, president, Avnet Logistics. ’As a member of the Chandler community for more than two decades, Avnet is thrilled to receive this award recognizing our dedication to the city’s business community. We are committed to helping our employees, customers and suppliers be successful, and community support is crucial to helping them thrive.’

The Chandler Chamber of Commerce selected Avnet for this award based on its positive impact on the Chandler business community and the planned opening of Avnet’s newest Chandler facility. Avnet broke ground on a 228,000-square foot integration and logistics facility in April 2007, which will be located at the Chandler Freeways Business Park. The new facility will house a state-of-the-art integration center capable of building and shipping approximately 700,000 systems annually, in addition to a new warehouse. Avnet’s new Chandler facility will roughly double the company’s integration capabilities in the Americas, supporting continued growth in the region. It is scheduled to open in mid-2008.

For more than 20 years, Phoenix-based Avnet has had a significant presence in Chandler. Avnet opened its flagship North American distribution and logistics center in the city in the 1980s. This 404,000-square foot Chandler facility represents Avnet’s largest distribution center globally, shipping more than 10,000 line items per day.
