DH Pace Selects Motorola’s Enterprise Wireless LAN as Foundation for Improved, Paperless Operations and Multi-site Network

SAN JOSE, Calif.– The enterprise mobility business of Motorola, Inc. (NYSE: MOT) and PartnerSelect Solution Partner DCT Solutions Group, today announced DH Pace selected a Motorola enterprise mobility system that will significantly improve its customer service and operational efficiencies. DH Pace, a service, distribution and construction organization offering a wide range of door and door-related products, will deploy Motorola’s Enterprise Wireless LAN (WLAN) infrastructure and rugged mobile computers in its warehouses and rugged enterprise digital assistants (EDAs) to its field workers, enabling mobility inside and outside the enterprise.

In 2005, DH Pace unveiled a corporate plan that included streamlining business processes and adopting appropriate mission-specific technologies that improve customer service and operational efficiencies. To help meet their goals and objectives, DH Pace evaluated wireless-based warehouse management systems (WMS) with DCT Solutions Group, and selected Motorola to provide the end-to-end enterprise mobility solution.

“We didn’t want to take a chance on implementing multiple hardware vendors for a critical part of our operations. After evaluating several vendors – when planning our wireless and mobility system – we selected Motorola as they offered an end-to-end solution, including centralized management of the WLAN,” said Chris Mann, senior vice president of business systems, DH Pace. “Motorola is a leader in delivering enterprise mobility solutions that are cost-effective and can scale to meet expanding business needs. With the Motorola enterprise mobility system, our warehouse will be a paperless operation, resulting in streamlined processes and improved inventory accuracy.”

By extending the reach of the wireless networks both indoors and outdoors with WLAN and cellular, access at the point of business activity enables cost-effective connectivity to real-time data where critical business decisions are made. This is where mobility truly begins - seamless mobility wherever and whenever you want with any mobile device on any network.

Enterprise WLAN on the Inside
Motorola’s Enterprise WLAN solutions enable seamless mobility within buildings and across campuses. DH Pace will deploy enterprise-class Motorola WS5100 wireless switches with the Wireless Next-Generation (Wi-NG) architecture at its headquarters to centrally manage AP300 access ports at 24 remote warehouse locations. Managing multiple, remote WLANs from a central location provides a cost-effective, simplified and easy-to-deploy solution that does not require IT staff at each warehouse site. Motorola’s access ports connect to the centralized wireless switch over a Layer 3 network, allowing the management for different networks and subnets, and enforcement of corporate network security policies.

The WLAN will provide warehouse workers with consistent wireless access to the corporate network, enabling them to roam through the warehouse, and have access to update business-critical information in real-time. Migrating from a paper-based operation, warehouse workers will use Motorola MC9090-G rugged mobile computers – installed with enterprise resource planning (ERP) and WMS applications – to run inventory, picking, packing and shipping applications, effectively eliminating written transcripts.

In addition, Motorola’s Mobility Services Platform (MSP) will provide DH Pace with a single point of control to simplify and reduce the costs of deploying and managing the WLAN, as well as associated mobile devices and the applications running on them.

Field Force Automation on the Outside
To better service customers, and increase sales and accuracy, more than 300 DH Pace field workers will use Motorola’s MC70 rugged EDA with Wi-Fi and cellular connectivity. With the MC70 EDA, field workers will have consistent wireless access to the corporate network to access and update information for processing orders in real-time. By streamlining operations in the field, DH Pace can eliminate the use of paper, and increase information accuracy.

DCT Solutions Group offered a compelling package with its depth of capabilities and experience in providing and managing the entire project for DH Pace. The deployment will feature everything from site surveys and wireless installation, to the staging, configuration and implementation of the Motorola mobile computers. Additionally, DCT Solutions Group will provide on-going training and support to ensure the success of the project.

“We deploy extremely innovative solutions that provide our customers with benefits that help improve business-critical operations and reduce costs,” said David Prideaux, wireless systems project manager, DCT Solutions Group. “The functionality of Motorola’s wireless switch with the Wi-NG architecture significantly reduced the overall cost of the project, and gave DCT Solutions Group and Motorola an additional advantage over competitors.”
