ALAFCO, the Kuwait-based international Aviation and Lease Finance Company, has placed an order for Rolls-Royce Trent XWB engines to power a new fleet of 12 Airbus A350 XWB twinjets.

The contract is worth $480 million at engine list prices.

Ahmed A. Al-Zabin, Chairman of ALAFCO, said: “We are investing for the future, and we believe the combination of the Trent and the A350 XWB will deliver flexible, highly efficient operations for our customers in the Middle East and around the world.”

Mike Terrett, President – Civil Aerospace, Rolls-Royce, added: “I look forward to building a new and mutually-rewarding business relationship with ALAFCO, one of the fastest-growing leasing companies in the Middle East. It increases our footprint and opens up new opportunities for us through lease operations.”

The Trent XWB – the only engine offered on the latest Airbus twin – is being developed specifically for the aircraft. A single version of the engine, capable of thrusts from 75,000 – 95,000lb, will be capable of powering all versions of the A350 XWB, available for entry into commercial service in 2013.
