Harris Corporation’s Jeff Shuman Named Best Human Resources Executive for 2007
Jeff Shuman, vice president of Human Resources and Corporate Relations for Harris Corporation (NYSE: HRS), recently received the Best Human Resources Executive Award at the fifth annual American Business Awards, also known as the Stevie® Awards, in New York. He oversees the human resources and corporate relations functions for all of Harris Corporation, which has more than 15,000 employees worldwide.
Shuman has been an architect of change for the company’s Human Resources organization. Under his management, Harris has instituted an Integrated Talent Management approach in how it manages and grows its talent pool by bringing human capital management processes such as performance management, workforce planning, skills management, succession planning, recruiting, and resource scheduling into an integrated whole. In 2006, Shuman oversaw the development of a corporate-wide set of values and has led the internal branding campaign to promote these values to Harris employees worldwide under the banner of “Shaping the Difference.”
Under Shuman’s leadership, the company also has expanded its volunteer program and promoted opportunities for Harris employees to become more involved in the community. He has been personally involved with many community and educational initiatives, including the Space Coast Early Intervention Center, Wuestoff Health Systems, Enterprise Florida, and the University of Florida Foundation, among others. Through his role modeling, many other Harris executives have become involved with community and educational organizations, sharing their knowledge and expertise to guide and grow these initiatives.
Harris Chairman, President and CEO Howard L. Lance said that Shuman’s active involvement and leadership have had a direct impact on the company’s bottom-line.
“Jeff is a full business partner in our corporation, and has proven to be a non-traditional leader for our HR organization,” said Lance. “His in-depth understanding of both the business and HR aspects of our industry has been a tremendous asset and has had a direct impact on our growth.”
